Instructional Technology is a collaboration of different ways to utilize technology to bring about the maximum performance for teachers and students. Instructional technology gives teachers the resources to provide detailed lesson plans, interactive learning experiences and thorough instructions on assignments .Many tools can be considered as useful technology for the class setting. For example the internet, whiteboards, projectors, DVD players, ipads, and downloadable applications all are different forms of technology accessible to educators. Technology provides students and teachers different ways of staying in constant contact such as emails, blogs and chat rooms. The elementary school in which I work we use projectors to show different educational documentaries from a variety of countries in aspiration of expanding the students cultural awareness. We also have different online tutoring practice for math and reading skills. It is a new system that uses math questions, science and history that gives children k-6 grade level questions. When the children get a right answer they get to take a basketball shot in the game. The program has a system to keep track of all the school making it a competition between all the schools. The interesting part of the application is that if you get the answer wrong it drops the grade level and gradually brings you to the level you should be on. This application is able to be used at home so if the children want extra chances to win they can play from their home computer. The object of this application is to help children learn while playing a game. This Game just got introduced to my site today so I am not yet too familiar with the program but I will keep the class posted because some may find use of it in the near future.
The Dick , Cary ,And Carey model was well designed , If I was to redesign the model to implement into my school the order I would place it in in similar mince a couple of steps but still accomplishing the same goal. I would place them in the order of; 1.Assess needs to identify goals 2.Analyze learners and contexts, 3.Conduct instructional analysis, 4.Develop and select instructional materials, 5.Develop assessment instruments, 6.Design and conduct summative evaluation. This model would complement the program that I mentioned previously because it the intention of it being created was to help students gain strength in areas they are not performing well in and help make the subjects they are performing will in stronger. The only instructions from teachers may have to be give is the behavior for the class period because students at my school tend to get rowdy when the voice level is not communicated to them. Otherwise the student has one on one time with the computer to play the game. The goals are help advance there competency level and to test their level as well. If a student gets an answer wrong a specific number of times the grade of level of the question goes done until they can rise the score back to where it should be or further. The level goes to six so fifth grades can practice a grade level a head if they are comfortable with their level of work. It is in the form of a game so that the children will enjoy the experience of learning. Also when students keep getting the right answer the questions randomly repeat thought the game to plant the answer in their head. State test scores can also be improved by this game because it cavers all the subjects that are given in the stars test. Using this program can help build the confidence of the students when it is time to take the stars test having practiced all year around on similar information and in some cases a grade level higher. By the student having a sign in name like an email address the programs data base keeps a record of all the students progression and if they are digressing either case can be seen by the administrator to handle accordingly. The only information everyone can see is the score of basketballs shots they make on the computer, but the student gets and the administrators get the results back as soon as a game is finished. I do not know who designed this program like I mentioned I learned about it today but will be glad to share Monday night when I get off work because I will get the in specific details at work.
Technology has rapidly spread into the field of education and has eased the process of teaching for teachers and the process of learning for students. What I mean by ease is removing loose papers with storing information on computers and flask drives, being able to create power points to help elaborate lectures and the use of the internet for finding references books, movies, documents etc.K12 Education could make use of blogging as a journal and be used as a beginning way of learning how to become familiar with typing. Gradually introducing it to students but more importantly 9-12 by then the students should focus on formatting ideas on paper because I see a lot of peers come to college and not have the skills to type a one page paper. It isn’t their fault but they have never been taught so with this starting to familiarize student with typing in a journal by the time college time comes they will be well equipped. The future of technology in education is limitless because the rapid growth of it in society. Students who’s schooling is based around technology or uses it often will one day become a teacher and have more ideas like the teachers now are coming up with so that’s why I say it is limitless because being exposed to something for a long period of time increases you probability to improve those methods and philosophies used to gain your skills or knowledge.
You noted the 'ease of use' that instructional technology brings to teaching. I would agree and yet there are so many teachers who refrain from using these tools. Certainly, there is a learning curve for the use of many instructional tools. This is the reason why we need champions who can model and demonstrate the value of the 21st century tools and how they captivate the attention of students to learn.
